Lupin's Monkey Punch Draws Art for The Detective Is in the Bar 3 Film

Manga artist Monkey Punch is switched from his famous thief to draw a detective for the upcoming The Detective is in the Bar 3 (Tantei wa bar ni iru 3) suspense film. The collaboration was realized in part because of the similarities between Monkey Punch's manga's themes' similarities to the film and the fact that he's a fan of the live-action film as well. The film staff sent Monkey Punch still images and he created the collaboration art based on those materials.
The film stars Yō Ōizumi, the voice of video game detective Professor Layton, as the film's titular sleuth Keller Ohata. Ryūhei Matsuda plays his detective buddy and former AKB48 member Atsuko Maeda stars as a university student caught up in a prostitution ring.
Oizumi commented that he has been a fan of Lupin the Third since he was a child and he "felt like crying" after receiving the artwork. He added that Lupin the Third definitely influenced his acting in the film. He thanked Monkey Punch for the artwork and promised to treasure it always.

The The Detective is in the Bar 3 film opens on December 1 and is based on Naomi Azuma's novel series.
