New Eureka Seven Film Gets VR Experience in Tokyo

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The official website of the Psalms of Planets Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution film series announced on Thursday that the films are collaborating with Bandai Namco Entertainment's VR Zone Shinjuku game center. The collaboration marks the first time that the game center is collaborating with a theatrical work.

The collaboration will feature a large number of special videos. The Center Core Area will have a special video that utilizes projection mapping technology. The walls of the area will display videos from the film edited specially for this collaboration. In addition, the entire game center will feature Eureka Seven colors.

The game center's cafe Glamper's is offering a limited collaboration parfait beginning on September 8. The parfait will cost 1,706 yen (about US$16) and include a liftboard-shaped cookie, macarons in Eureka and Anemone's colors, and Scub Coral-like jelly. People who order the parfait will receive one of two record-disc coasters with jackets while supplies last.

The collaboration will run at VR Zone Shinjuku from September 13 to October 31.

The first film in the planned Psalms of Planets Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution trilogy made its worldwide debut at Otakon on August 12. The first film will open in Japan on September 16, and will also open this fall in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Funimation is in charge of the North American release, and Madman Entertainment is in charge of the Australian and New Zealand release. BONES also plans to open the film in other countries "simultaneously." The second film will open in 2018, and the third film will open in 2019.

The films will follow The First Summer of Love phenomenon that occurred a decade before the first Eureka Seven series. The anime franchise thus far has hinted at, but never depicted in full, "the beginning of it all." The films will then have the same basic story as the first Eureka Seven series, but will have an original ending. The trilogy will have completely re-recorded lines, redone footage, and new scenes.

VR Zone Shinjuku will also release a "Mobile Suit Gundam Senjō no Kizuna VR Prototype Ver." (Mobile Suit Gundam: Battlefield Bonds VR Prototype Ver.) VR demo experience in winter 2017.

Bandai Namco Entertainment opened the entertainment center in Tokyo on July 14. The center has 15 activities, including VR experiences for Dragon Ball, Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell Arise, and Mario Kart. Bandai Namco Entertainment boasts that the center is the biggest virtual reality game center in Japan.

Bandai Namco Entertainment plans to open a selection of VR activities in 20 locations around the world, with London being the first location. Bandai Namco Entertainment is considering opening in such locations as Singapore, Dubai, and New York.
