In/Spectre Manga Ends, But Sequel Announced for June

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Manga by Chasiba Katase based on Kyo Shirodaira's novel launched in 2015

This year's third issue of Kodansha's Shōnen Magazine R published the final chapter of Kyo Shirodaira and Chasiba Katase's In/Spectre (Kyokō Suiri or Invented Interface) manga on Thursday. A sequel series to the manga will begin in the magazine's next issue on June 20. The first chapter of the sequel will be a short story depicting a regular day in the life of Kotoko and Kuro. The manga's sixth compiled volume will ship on June 16.

Kodansha Comics is releasing the manga in English, and it describes the story:

When she was still just a girl, Kotoko was kidnapped by yokai. These spirits made her into a powerful intermediary between the spirit and human worlds, but this power came at a price: an eye and a leg. Now, years later, she watches out for dangerous yokai while developing feelings for a young man named Kuro, who is also special: an incident with a yokai has given him healing powers. He's surprised when Kotoko asks him to team up to handle renegade yokai, preserving the thin line between reality and the supernatural.

Katase launched the manga based on a novel by Shirodaira (Spiral, The Record of a Fallen Vampire, Blast of Tempest) in Kodansha's Shōnen Magazine R in April 2015. The manga is Katase's first serialized work. Kodansha published the manga's fifth volume in Japan in December, and Kodansha Comics published the third volume in North America on March 7. Kodansha Comics will release the fourth volume on May 9.
