Series about tiny gods born from objects premiered last October

The official website for Bandai's Kami-sama Minarai: Himitsu no Cocotama (God Apprentices: Secretive Cocotama) television anime series announced on Thursday that the anime is getting its first film adaptation that will premiere in Japan in 2017 during Japan's Golden Week stretch of holidays in late April to early May. The announcement also celebrates the television anime series' one-year anniversary.

In the franchise, "Cocotama" are tiny gods born from the thoughts and feelings of objects that people use with great care. The fact that Cocotama wear part of the egg they hatch out of as underwear is proof that they are still apprentices. The Cocotama use a mysterious magic, and they train hard to be of use to humans and to become full gods. They live inside human houses and stealthily move around to help humans find things they have lost, although they make many mistakes.

The anime stars:

  • Kaede Hondo as Kokoro Yotsuba, a kind fifth-year elementary school student who treats her things with care
  • Megumi Han as Rakitama, a Cocotama who was born from a colored pencil
  • Aki Toyosaki as Melori, a Cocotama who was born from a piano
  • Yumi Kakazu as Oshaki, a Cocotama who was born from a book
  • Ryōka Yuzuki as Kirarisu, a Cocotama who was born from a stick of lipstick
  • Rikako Aikawa as Geracho, a Cocotama who was born from a TV
  • Michiyo Murase as Mogutan, a Cocotama who was born from a fork

Norio Nitta (episode director for Inazuma Eleven, LBX) is directing the series at OLM. Michihiro Tsuchiya (PriPara, Cross Game) is handling the series composition, Shinobu Taiga (animation director for Yumeiro Pâtissière, Pokémon the Movie: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages) is designing the characters, Toshihiko Nakajima (Inazuma Eleven GO, Kobato.) is directing the sound, Ryosuke Nakanishi (Kuroko's Basketball, High School DxD) is composing the music, and Lantis is producing the music.

The anime series premiered on TV Tokyo on October 1 2015. The franchise also includes a popular line of toys and a free smartphone app.
