Winners Announced for 'Silent Manga Audition' Round 5
On 8th July 2016, 25 Award Winners were announced for the 5th round of SILENT MANGA AUDITION, one of the world's largest Manga/Comic awards.
Kichijoji, Tokyo, JAPAN July 8th, 2016
SILENT MANGA AUDITION® is an international manga award held by Japanese Manga publisher COAMIX, for the purpose of discovering and cultivating new Manga talent from all over the world. It is a golden opportunity for every aspiring manga creator aiming to become a pro, to present their skills and polish their techniques of description and Manga story telling.
The themes for round 5 are “Friendship” and “Communication Tool”. There were 603 entries from 62 countries and regions.
The top award was taken by DS STUDIO from Indonesia. In total, 25 award winners from 9 different countries were selected.
High achievers will be invited to the “SMA MASTER CLASS”. Members of the MASTER CLASS will be invited to Japan to attend an awards ceremony. They will join the existing 25 members of the MASTER CLASS, all aiming to become pro manga artists. In addition, they will each be assigned an experienced manga editor, who will assist them in Manga creation. While in Japan, in addition to sightseeing, they will travel together with their editors, visit the judge's manga studios, and receive handson training in manga creation. This training program is aimed to accelerate their debuts as professional manga artists.
The next round SMA6 has already begun, and entries for the new theme “Childhood” are being accepted. The deadline is 30 September, 2016.
On the official website “SMAC! the Web Magazine”, there are practical tutorial videos by seasoned manga professionals, interviews with professional manga aritsts such as Tsukasa Hojo and Tetsuo Hara, and English versions of the Manga published at COAMIX. These contents are great sources of reference and inspiration for all entrants.
