posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Frontier Works began streaming a promotional video on Thursday for Bananya, the television anime adapting Q-LiA's Bananya banana cat mascot character.
Yūki Kaji (Attack on Titan's Eren Jaeger) will play the titular character.
Kyō Yatate (Sockie's Frontier Quest) is directing the anime at TMS Entertainment and Gathering. Yatate is also scripting and producing the anime alongside Masahiro Takata (Super Seisyun Brothers director, scriptwriter). Jun Mita (Mobile Suit Gundam-san) is serving as animation director, Kōichi Yokojin is the director of photography, and Nobuyuki Abe (Ai no Kusabi remake) is the sound director.
The anime will premiere in July.
Q-LiA launched its previously announced crowdfunding campaign for the anime on March 25. The backer rewards include Bananya merchandise that will only be made available during the crowdfunding campaign, including: mugs, thank you messages, charms, postcards, tin badges, body pillows, photo clocks, blankets, hand and bath towels, the backer's name in the credits, and the backer's name in an episode end card. The campaign seeks to raise 3 million yen (about US$27,605). As of press time, it has raised 174,000 yen (about US$1,600). The campaign will end on June 22.
Q-LiA launched the Bananya mascot character last year. Another Q-LiA mascot character, Shizuku-chan, previously received three television anime adaptations, including Pururun! Shizuku-chan in 2006, Pururun! Shizuku-chan Aha in 2007, and Picchipichi Shizuku-chan in 2012.
Update: Region free video added.
