Rose of Versailles Art Book Marks Anniversaries of Riyoko Ikeda's Debut, Her Manga

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

In honor of the 50th anniversary of manga artist Riyoko Ikeda's debut, fukkan.com is releasing the Versailles no Bara -Animation Album- art book in mid-March. This year also marks the 45th anniversary since Ikeda launched her Rose of Versailles manga in Shueisha's Margaret magazine.

The book will include materials that depict main characters and famous scenes from the anime adaptation of Ikeda's original manga. The art book will feature photographs of cels captured on 35-millimeter film. The release will also include building art and scenery images. This book will mark the first time that these materials are being released to the public.

People who order the book through fukkan.com will receive a postcard with an image (pictured above) of Oscar at sunset.

The Debut 50 Shūnen Kinen-ten -Ikeda Riyoko- VerBara to Tomoni (50th Debut Anniversary Exhibition: Riyoko Ikeda Together With The Rose of Versailles) exhibition will also run at Tokyo's Nihonbashi Takashimaya departement store from March 8 to March 20. The first 100,000 people who spent at least 5,000 yen (about US$43) at the Amour du Chocolat! event received complimentary tickets to the anniversary exhibition. Takashimaya's annual Valentine's Day chocolate sale featured a Rose of Versailles theme this year. The sale's two special one-shot manga received a booklet release.
