New Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Comics Licensed
posted on by Egan Loo
Boom! Studios has acquired the rights to publish new comics based on the live-action special-effects franchise Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from Saban Brands. The company will launch its new project with a set of six exclusive, one-page comics at Comic-Con International at San Diego next week.
As their title indicates, the new comics will focus on the first 1993-1995 incarnation of the Power Rangers franchise, which itself was loosely based on the Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger entry in Toei's Super Sentai franchise.
Each of the six single-page, double-sided comics at Comic-Con International will focus on a different Ranger — Red, Black, Yellow, Blue, Pink, and Green. Goñi Montes (RoboCop) drew the pinup illustration on one side of each comic, and writer Mairghread Scott (Transformers: Witchblade) and artist Daniel Bayliss (Translucid) created the one-page comic on the other side.
Marvel published Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comics in the 1990s, and Papercutz published children's graphic novels within the past year.
