Manga set during the 18th century in European Age of Sail debuts on December 12

The December issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Shonen Sunday magazine announced on Thursday that Ryōji Minagawa (Peace Maker, Spriggan) will launch a new manga titled Kaiō Dante ("Dante" Ocean King) in the magazine's next issue, which Shogakukan will publish on December 12. Minagawa will draw the art, while Fukurō Izumi (Poseidon no Zaihō) is credited with the original work. The manga will have a color opening page, and will adorn the issue's front cover.

The issue describes the manga:

It is the middle of the 18th century. Beginning with the English, the Western European countries have begun to cast their gaze across the sea in an age of great romance. In such an age lives a boy who hides great power within him. What destiny awaits him as he struggles and cuts through the raging waves? An ocean spectacle romance action story begins!

From the creator of Spriggan, Project ARMS, and D-Live!! comes a deep story that will charm readers. Minagawa brings the fire of a new world to Monthly Shonen Sunday.

Shogakukan also began streaming an announcement video for the manga on Wednesday.

Viz Media published three volumes of Minagawa's Spriggan manga as Striker in North America from 1998 to 1999. Viz also released all 22 volumes of his Project ARMS manga in North America from 2003 to 2009. The Spriggan manga was adapted into an anime film in 1998, while Project ARMS was adapted into a 26-episode television anime series in 2001. Minagawa launched the ongoing Peace Maker manga (no relation to the similarly titled manga by Nanae Chrono) in Shueisha's Ultra Jump magazine in 2007.

Minagawa and storywriter Eri Oka serialized the 11-volume Adamas manga from 2007-2014 in Kodansha's Evening magazine.
