Dagashi Kashi Gets Light Novel Adaptation by Haiyore! Nyaruko-san Creator

Light novel Dagashi Kashi: Mō Hitotsu no Natsuyasumi slated for December 18

The official website of Shogakukan's Gagaga Bunko imprint revealed on Wednesday Kotoyama's Dagashi Kashi manga is inspiring a light novel adaptation by Manta Aisora (Haiyore! Nyaruko-san) titled Dagashi Kashi: Mō Hitotsu no Natsuyasumi (Cheap Sweets Candy: Another Summer Vacation). Aisora will also draw the art for the novel. Shogakukan will publish the novel on December 18.

Kotoyama's original manga follows Kokonotsu, who does not want to inherit his family's rural candy store as his father wishes. A girl named Hotaru, who's crazy about small-time candy stores, appears at the store and repeatedly visits in order to convince him to take it over. The title means "Cheap Sweets Candy," which is also the name of a Japanese band, but read differently it could mean "However."

Kotoyama began the series in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in June 2014. Shogakukan shipped the third compiled book volume on October 16. The manga is inspiring a television anime adaptation in January.

Aisora's Haiyore! Nyaruko-san light novel series inspired two 12-episode TV anime adaptations in 2012 and 2013, respectively. The series also inspired a two-episode original video animation, a web animation series, and a series of TV anime shorts.
