Kemono Friends Designer Draws Horse Girls for JRA Collaboration

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Although Uma Musume Pretty Derby and A Centaur's Life are likely candidates, the Japan Racing Association's (JRA) latest anime-related collaboration is with Kemono Friends. The collaboration opened a special "Uma no Friends" (Horse Friends) website on Friday.

Kemono Friends conceptual designer Mine Yoshizaki provided a set of characters for the collaboration that combines human girls with Thoroughbred horses. The "Thoroughbred Friends" come in three real Thoroughbred horse colors: chestnut, seal brown, and white. Kemono Friends main character Serval also reappears as "Athlete Serval," who is apparently ready to run with the horse girls.

The collaboration's website features a personality quiz from the Kemono Friends' aspiring detective character Reticulated Giraffe. People who take the five-question test can find out which character they are. The website's trivia section provides horse facts, and the "Oshiete Jūi-san!" (Teach me, Veterinarian!) video offers information about Thoroughbred horses.

Yoshizaki's Kemono Friends-inspired version of Osamu Tezuka's Phoenix character debuted at a department store in Osaka in May. Yoshizaki also created a tsuchinoko character for a festival held in Gifu in May.

The JRA has previously partnered with Kingdom, Attack on Titan, Evangelion, and Sengoku Musou for similar collaborations involving online content.

The JRA's Mr. Osomatsu "Hashire! Oumatsu-san" collaboration includes an OVA and six new anime shorts. Crunchyroll streamed the Osomatsu-san Ouma de Kobanashi special.
