Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sells 3.84 million copies; 3DS worldwide sales at 66.12 million units

Nintendo revealed in its year-end financial report on Wednesday for the fiscal year ending on March 31 that it has sold 2.74 million Switch consoles worldwide. This number includes 600,000 units in Japan, 1.2 million units in the Americas, and 940,000 units in other regions.

Nintendo said it also sold 5.46 million software copies for the Switch since its launch. Those numbers include 890,000 copies sold in Japan, 2.86 million copies sold in the Americas, and 1.71 million copies sold in other regions.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild alone has sold 3.84 million copies, with 2.76 million of those copies being for the Switch. In the United States, the game sold more than 925,000 copies for the Switch, and "nearly 460,000" copies sold for the Wii U console. Nintendo said earlier this month that the game is the fastest-selling Nintendo launch game ever, and the fastest-selling game in The Legend of Zelda series.

The financial report also revealed the worldwide sales totals for the following games:

  • Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon: 15.44 million copies
  • Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS: 2.34 million copies
  • Kirby: Planet Robobot: 1.36 million copies

Nintendo said it sold 760,000 Wii U units between April 2016 and March 2017 with worldwide sales totals to date for the console at 13.56 million units. Nintendo also sold 7.27 million Nintendo 3DS units between April 2016 and March 2017. Nintendo has now sold a total of 66.12 million units of the Nintendo 3DS worldwide.

Nintendo made an operating profit of 489.0 billion yen (about US$4.392 billion) during the fiscal year, against net sales of 29.3 billion yen (about US$263 million). 73.4% of the total sales were overseas sales.

Nintendo released its Switch console worldwide on March 3. The company stated in the report it is looking to sell 10 million Switch units worldwide in the new fiscal year that ends in March 2018.
