Tokyo Joypolis Launches T.M. Revolution Shows & Rides

posted on by Eric Stimson
Both celebrate their 20th anniversaries

The Tokyo branch of JOYPOLIS, located in the harbor district of Odaiba, welcomed its 20th anniversary on July 12. The popular singer T.M. Revolution (Takanori Nishikawa) also celebrates the 20th anniversary of his debut this year, so it's only natural that the two would join forces for an energetic musical promotion, T. M. R. Park Revolution in JOYPOLIS 2020.

The promotion includes a "digital science-fiction concert," Live [Concert] at Planet-JOYPOLIS, which presents Nishikawa as a singer taking a personal jet to Planet JOYPOLIS. But the jet is shot down, and Nishikawa finds himself in a mysterious frozen cave nowhere near his destination. He must overcome numerous obstacles, and apparently the will of the cave itself, to reach his scheduled concert. The show will include his songs "Hot Limit," "White Breath" and "High Pressure." It uses the latest film technology to make Nishikawa appear as if he was actually onstage. The concert will be held at the park's first floor main stage at 12:00, 3:00, and 7:00 p.m.

JOYPOLIS has also launched the "world's first rhythm game [roller] coaster," the Geki-On Live Coaster. It includes the same T.M. Revolution songs as the sci-fi concert with the addition of "Preserved Roses," and combines the sensations of riding a roller coaster and playing a rhythm game. The Halfpipe Tokyo, a snowboarding simulator, now plays over 30 T.M. Revolution songs as well. Both attractions are on the first floor and have an entry fee of 800 yen ($7.66).

But there's more! JOYPOLIS also provides a scavenger hunt, fortune-telling, a display of Nishikawa's various costumes over the course of his career, and a cafe with menu items based on T.M. Revolution songs, like High Pressure shrimp chili, Black or White? curry, White Breath drink and Hot Limit ginger soda.

There are plenty of T.M. Revolution-related goods on sale, ranging from towels and T-shirts to clear files and rubber straps. The 2013 T.M. Revolution Nendoroid is even making a comeback, although only 400 figures are available.

Even the park tickets have been rebranded to feature Nishikawa or chibi representations of him.

Despite its name, T. M. R. Park Revolution in JOYPOLIS 2020 will only last until September 30. The entry fee for JOYPOLIS is 800 yen ($7.66) for adults and 500 yen ($4.79) for children. Nishikawa appeared on stage on July 12 to inaugurate the promotion; see here for his remarks.

JOYPOLIS has previously collaborated with Tokyo Ghoul and Attack on Titan.
