Controversial Artist Rokudenashiko to Marry Waterboys Frontman Mike Scott

posted on by Eric Stimson
Also publishes manga memoir

Rokudenashiko ("Good-for-Nothing Child"), the pen name of Megumi Igarashi, announced on Nico Nico Douga on April 19 that she will marry Michael Scott, the lead singer of the British-Irish rock band The Waterboys. She is 44 years old, he 57. The wedding is scheduled for this autumn, and the couple plans to live in Ireland afterward.

Rokudenashiko achieved notoriety for her vagina-inspired artwork. In July 2014, her distribution of 3-D printer data instructing how to model her own vagina got her arrested. After she was released, she held a press conference in which she claimed that her "own genitals are not obscene" and that her "art is neither obscene nor criminal." As a result, she continued distributing the data and was arrested again in December 2014.

Another one of Rokudenashiko's projects: a vagina-shaped kayak

On Twitter, Rokudenashiko credited the international attention the controversy had attracted for her relationship with Scott. As a result, she thanked the police for making the marriage happen. "I'd like the prosecutors who sued me and the police who took care of me to come to my wedding," she tweeted.

Rokudenashiko is also a manga artist, and she recounts her ordeals in the manga memoir What is Obscenity? The True Story of a Good for Nothing Artist and Her Pussy, which will be available in English in May. On May 9, the Tokyo District Court will issue a ruling on whether she will pay a fine of 800,000 yen for her activities.
