Movie gets manga, Nintendo 3DS game adaptations

The November issue of Shogakukan's Coro Coro Comic magazine announced on Saturday that Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Nankyoku Kachi Kochi Daibōken (Doraemon the Movie 2017: Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi), the 37th film in the Doraemon franchise, will open in Japan on March 4. The film will get a manga adaptation by Shintarō Mugiwara, as well as a Nintendo 3DS game shipping on March 2.

The film's official website previously streamed a trailer in July.

The website also features a computer wallpaper for fans to download. The tagline on the image reads: "A magnificent adventure started from a small chance." The film will have an original story. While Nobita and his friends are in Antarctica, they stumble upon some ancient ruins, and discover a big secret. The film will feature two new characters: Paopao, a mysterious creature that looks just like a creature that appeared in the 2009 film Doraemon: Shin Nobita no Uchū Kaitakushi; and Kaara, a mysterious girl whose clothes make her look like she's not a normal person.

Atsushi Takahashi (Blue Exorcist film, Rideback director) is directing and scripting the film, and TOHO is distributing.

Eiga Doraemon Shin Nobita no Nihon Tanjō (Doraemon the Movie: Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016), the 36th anime film in the Doraemon franchise, opened in Japan on March 5. The film set a new franchise record, earning more than 4 billion yen (about US$37.7 million) as of May 5. The film is a remake of the Doraemon: Nobita no Nihon Tanjō (Doraemon: Nobita at the Birth of Japan) film, which originally opened in Japan in March 1989.
