Players cling to life-size Gundam statue's hand in new VR demo

The Gundam.info portal announced on Friday that the "VR ZONE Project i Can" area at the Diver City Tokyo Plaza will host a "Gundam VR Daiba Assault" virtual-reality experience starting on August 26. Diver City Tokyo Plaza on Tokyo's artificial island of Odaiba is also the location of the life-size Gundam statue, a Gundam Cafe, and the Gundam Front Tokyo entertainment space.

Bandai Namco Entertainment also began streaming a teaser video on Friday for the experience, featuring Amuro Ray's voice actor Tohru Furuya.

The VR experience will feature players clinging to the hand of the life-size Gundam statue featured on Odaiba as it fights. Players will also experience the shaking and tremors of the experience (as seen in the video above starting at 0:09). The experience will last for eight minutes, and costs 1,000 yen (about US$10).

VR Project i Can is Bandai Namco Entertainment's space for researching VR entertainment. The area opened on April 15 and will close on October 10.

Those interested can reserve a timeslot to participate in the experience. The area is also hosting a "Armored Trooper Votoms: Battling Yarō" experience.
