1st volume of "hard-boiled dark fantasy" manga ships in 2016

Vertical Comics confirmed with Anime News Network on Thursday that it has licensed Maybe's The Abandoned Sacred Beasts (Katsute Kami Datta Kemono-tachi e) manga for release in 2016. Vertical marketing director Ed Chavez stated, "We're excited to bring over this new fantasy manga series from MAYBE over to fans next year." Amazon lists the first US$10.95 volume for release on May 17.

Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine describes Maybe's "hard-boiled dark fantasy" series:

In war men become beasts. War makes gods out of beasts. When war ends gods...

Wolves walk the forest of despair, the wasteland of lamentation, the sea of bitterness, in the time of dark and light. To kill those who were once their friends.

Maybe launched the manga in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in June 2014, and Kodansha published the manga's second volume in Japan on June 9. The magazine streamed a promotional video for the manga in May.

The duo's completed Dusk maiden of Amnesia manga inspired a television anime in 2012. Maybe have also been serializing the Tales of Wedding Rings (Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari) manga in Square Enix's Monthly Big Gangan magazine since March 2014. Crunchyroll is digitally publishing the Tales of Wedding Rings manga in English.
