1st RPG in video game franchise to ship in 2016

CAPCOM revealed the new Monster Hunter Stories role-playing game for the Nintendo 3DS during the Monster Hunter Festa '15 tournament event in Tokyo on Sunday. CAPCOM plans to release the spinoff game in Japan in 2016.

CAPCOM has been planning the game for five years, and the game marks the first RPG in the franchise. CAPCOM is also streaming a promotional video for the game.

CAPCOM producer Ryōzō Tsujimoto said that in the game young boys become "monster riders," and the game will explore the way of life of those who choose to become a rider. The game will also explore importance of the bonds between the riders and monsters as they combine their strength on new adventures.

Tsujimoto also noted, "We want to tell a story that can only be told as an RPG and we want to convey a story filled with fun, while also accurately preserving the worldview of the Monster Hunter franchise."

The Monster Hunter action game franchise has sold more than 31 million copies. CAPCOM has also shipped 3 million copies worldwide of Monster Hunter 4G, the latest entry in the franchise.
