Happy 75th Birthday, Hayao Miyazaki!

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki is celebrating his 75th birthday today and fans of the retired director's works are posting tribute videos and artwork to mark the occasion.

Well-known Vine animator Wahyu "Pinot" Ichwandardi created a tribute vine for the director's birthday.

Vimeo user dono created this 3D video tribute last year set to music by Ghibli-regular Joe Hisaishi.

Australian distributor Madman Entertainment created their own tribute in 2014 prior to Miyazaki's final film opening in theaters in North America.

The Simpsons honored the director that same year with much of the long-running cartoon's cast reimagined as characters from his works.

Since his retirement, Miyazaki has kept himself busy dabbling in politics as the joint leader of the Henoko Fund opposition group. He's openly criticized Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe concerning the Security Bill to reinterpret part of the Japanese Constitution and to relocate the Futenma Air Station to Henoko.

A number of his out-of-print and never-before-seen works have gone on display or released in book format, while Miyazaki himself helped design and create a figure based on his planned (but long delayed) samurai manga.

He's kept up his routine cleaning patrols, even heading out to "Totoro Forest," but when it's all said and done, he still enjoys hanging around his home away from home, Studio Ghibli.
