Scene in Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Causes Viewer Complaints

posted on by Carlos Cadorniga

The Japanese Broadcasting Ethics and Program Improvement Organization (BPO) watchdog group has recently published viewer complaints for October, one most likely stemming from a scene in Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans. The complaint refers to an anime where "several nonresistant prisoners and enemy soldiers are gunned down by the young male protagonist." It does not directly name Iron-Blooded Orphans in the complaint.

The grievance also stated concern of children watching the mecha anime, expressing worry over the potential influence that such a violent scene could have of child viewers.

"If you look at the title, one would immediately think of this as a children's show and that many children would be watching."

They concluded their statement with the following: "If you want to to broadcast such material, please provide some sort of age limit for viewers."

Earlier this year in August, the BPO also published a complaint against the ending sequence to idol anime PriPara, which depicted the young girl protagonists in swimsuits. Specifically, Sophie Hojo wore a black negligee mirroring a photo of Marilyn Monroe. The ending sequence was edited.
