Crunchyroll Surpasses 2 Million Subscribers

Crunchyroll's parent company Ellation revealed to ANN last Thursday that Crunchyroll has reached more than two million subscribers. The service previously announced that it had reached more than one million subscribers in February 2017. Crunchyroll's website lists that it has more than 40 million registered users.
Crunchyroll also confirmed that it is collaborating with Adult Swim's Toonami block for the television broadcast of Mob Psycho 100 beginning this weekend.
The website launched in 2007 as a streaming service offering anime titles without authorization, but in 2008 it secured US$4.05 million in its first-round funding from Venrock and began licensing titles for streaming.
Crunchyroll launched a manga service in 2013. Crunchyroll, Sumitomo Corporation, and GREE also signed an agreement in August 2017 for the localization and distribution of games based on anime for North America and other overseas markets. Crunchyroll announced a joint venture to co-produce anime with Sumitomo Corporation in 2015.
Crunchyroll partnered with Funimation to cross-stream anime content and release titles for home video in 2016, but that partnership will end on November 9, with the HIDIVE streaming service instead joining streaming channel bundle service VRV, owned by Crunchyroll parent company Ellation.
The Chernin Group acquired a majority stake in Crunchyroll in December 2013. The Chernin Group and AT&T formed the joint venture Otter Media in 2014, and Otter Media invested another US$22 million in Crunchyroll's parent company Ellation in November 2015. AT&T then announced in August that it has acquired all of Otter Media.
