Hollywood's Rings Film Delayed to April 1, 2016

posted on by Karen Ressler

Paramount Pictures announced on Tuesday that it has delayed its Rings live-action horror film from November 13, 2015 to April 1, 2016.

Rings is a sequel to The Ring and will take place 13 years later. F. Javier Gutiérrez (right) is directing the film with Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (The Ring, The Ring Two) are producing. David Loucka, Jacob Aaron Estes, and Akiva Goldsman wrote the script. Alex Roe, Matilda Lutz, and Aimeé Teegarden are starring in the film.

The first Hollywood film of The Ring premiered in 2002. Hideo Nakata, the director of the original 1998 Japanese Ringu, directed The Ring Two, a Hollywood sequel that debuted in 2005.

Sadako 3D 2, which premiered in Japan in August 2013, was the latest film in the Ring (Ringu) series in Japan. In the films, Sadako is the vengeful ghost of the daughter of a famous psychic. She is connected to a cursed video tape featuring a collection of disturbing images; those who watch the tape are killed one week later. Koji Suzuki, the author of the original novel series that inspired the franchise, wrote a new original story for that film.
