72nd volume of Eiichiro Oda's pirate series ships in Japan on Friday

The 181th issue of Shueisha's Comics News digital magazine announced on Monday that once the 72nd volume of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece manga ships on Friday, the manga will have 300 million copies in print. The announcement notes it is an "unprecedented" achievement, and reads, "Thank you to all the book store employees who kept the manga selling!"

In comparison, as of February 2012, Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga had approximately 156.6 million copies in print, and Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto manga had approximately 126.5 million copies in print.

The 71st volume of Oda's One Piece manga sold 1.5 million copies in the first three days of its release in July.
