Madman Announces New Acquisitions at Supanova Perth 2013

The following four title announcements were made during Supanova Pop Culture Expo Perth on Sunday the 30th of June 2013. This is in addition to the fourth Reel Anime 2013 title, The Garden of Words. We will post further news and information these titles as it comes to light;

Psychic School Wars (Nerawareta Gakuen)

Kōji Seki attends Abeno 6th Middle School, a prep school where the high emphasis on studying leads to unruly students. When Michiru Takamizawa is elected the student council president she begins ruling over the school with a brutal iron fist. Kōji rises up against Michiru and Kazumi Kusumoto joins him in the battle with the student council.

Nerawareta Gakuen is based off Taku Mayumura's 1976 science-fiction children's novel of the same name. The novel has previously inspired four live-action television adaptations and two live-action films. However this anime film adaptation is the first time the novel has been made into an anime feature. The film was produced by Sunrise's Studio 8 (My-HiME, Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere, Accel World) with director Ryosuke Nakamura (Mōryō no Hako, Aoi Bungaku Series) and released in Japanese theaters in November 2012.

Madman Entertainment is the first company outside of Japan to license Psychic School Wars. The film has been confirmed to be released on DVD with Blu-ray a future possibility, however no release date has been set.

Mega Man

Mega Man is a robot created by Dr Light, dedicated to protecting the innocent against the evil forces of the nefarious Dr Wily and his Robot Masters. However Mega Man's more than up to the task with his plasma cannon, the ability to copy his opponent's abilities and his friend Roll and his dog Rush.

Mega Man was originally screened in 1995 as a joint project between Ruby-Spears Productions and Ashi Production to adapt CAPCOM's Mega Man (Rockman) video games. The series ran for two seasons / 27 episodes and was created at an interesting point in Anime's adoption in the west, with the producers trying to strike a balance between (what was considered at the time) younger anime based designs and the 80's action-adventure cartoon they wanted to create. The show premiered with Mega Man voiced by Ian James Corlett (Cheetor in Beast Wars, Goku and Master Roshi in season 1 of Dragon Ball Z), Jim Byrnes (Inferno in Beast Wars) as Dr Light, Gary Chalk (Optimus Primal in Beast Wars) as Guts Man and Scott McNeil (Dinobot, Rattrap, Silverbolt and Waspinator in Beast Wars, Piccolo in Dragonball Z) as Dr. Albert Wily and Protoman.

Mega Man was originally released on VHS by Sony in 1995, later released as two DVD sets by ADV in 2003 and now Discotek Media plans to re-release the entire series in the United States in 2014.

Madman Entertainment will release Mega Man on DVD at some point in the near future, but in the meantime you can view the opening to this classic below;

Kamisama Kiss

Nanami's been kicked out into the cold after her father has disappeared due to his gambling debts. But Namami (Suzuko Mimori) isn't homeless for long when she saves a strange man, Mikage (Akira Ishida), from a dog and he gives Namami his house as thanks. But when Namami gets to the house, she soon it's a Shinto shrine and Mikage has transferred his status as a god and his yōkai to Nanami. Problem is that the yōkai, Tomoe (Shinnosuke Tachibana), doesn't accept Namami as his new master.

Kamisama Kiss is adapted from Julietta Suzuki's original manga of the same name that has been published in Hakusensha's Hana to Yume shōjo magazine since March 2008. Viz Media has been publishing the manga in North America and has published 13 volumes to date.

Akitaro Daichi (Fruits Basket, Kodocha, Now and Then, Here and There) is directed the anime at TMS Entertainment (Detective Conan, Lupin III) and wrote most of the scripts. Junko Yamanaka (Detective Conan, KenIchi the Mightiest Disciple) adapted the characters for the anime alongside art director Takashi Aoi (Xam'd: Lost Memories, Darker than Black) and Toshio Masuda (Mahoromatic - Automatic Maiden, Naruto) composed the music.

Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie

Sakura Kinomoto was an ordinary 4th grader until she opened the book of Clow and became responsible to capture the released Clow cards. Now Sakura has finally caught a break and wins a trip to Hong Kong. However Sakura has been having weird dreams about water and a mysterious women and Kero has reservations about exactly how and why Sakura has come to visit Hong Kong. Soon Sakura and her friends Tomoyo and Syaoran are swept up in a mystery dating back to the time of Clow Reed.

Originally premiering in the August of 1999 this film was scripted by the lead Clamp writer, Nanase Ohkawa, and directed by Morio Asaka. Produced at Studio MADHOUSE the film features the talents of character designer Kumiko Takahashi (Witch Hunter Robin, Ouran High School Host Club), art director Katsufumi Hariu (Macross Plus) and music composition by Takayuki Negishi (Cardcaptor Sakura, Cardfight!! Vanguard).

Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie was released as a English "Cardcaptors" dub by Nelvana and Pioneer released the uncut Japanese sub version, both released at the same time on VHS and DVD in March 2002. Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie has never been released in Australia before.

Madman's DVD release of Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie will have the original Japanese soundtrack featuring Sakura Tange (Crea Drosera in Aquarion Evol) as Sakura, Aya Hisakawa (Skuld in Ah! My Goddess) as Kerberos, Junko Iwao (Kazuko Saotome in Puella Magi Madoka Magica as Tomoyo and Motoko Kumai (Sumomo in Chobits) as Syaoran. In addition this release will include the uncut dub from the original Geneon/Pioneer release. No date has been set for release and Madman cannot confirm plans for Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2: The Sealed Card at this stage.
