Tokyo Theater to Screen Girls und Panzer Film with 'Extreme' 4DX

posted on by Eric Stimson

The Girls und Panzer movie is showing in Japanese theaters equipped with 4DX technology. This provides a much more immersive theater-going experience, with sometimes aggressive chair movements, mist, steam, scents, and chairs pounding your back like you're at a massage.

The Cinema Sunshine Heiwajima, in Tokyo's Heiwajima district, is taking 4DX one step further on March 5 with "extreme" screenings, which promise even more aggressive chair movement. It tried the experience out with Mad Max: Fury Road to positive audience reception. Girls und Panzer fans have also enjoyed 4DX screenings, as the webcomics below suggest — although you wouldn't want to bring hot drinks into the theater (even popcorn could get messy), those who wear glasses might not enjoy the mist, and some have complained of head injury. Fans have noted with approval details like the differentiation between diesel engine and gas engine motion.

Tickets for extreme screenings of Girls und Panzer go on sale on March 3 and can be obtained here. Girls und Panzer ranked #8 at the box office in Japan last weekend and has earned about 59.7 million yen (or $532,000). The film jumped back into the top 10 after falling to #24 after a number of theaters added 4DX screenings of the film.
