Hatsune Miku Goes Classical for NHK Orchestra Performance

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The NHK Symphony Orchestra is celebrating its 90th anniversary with a special concert titled "N Symphony CLASSICS × POPS with SPECIAL ARTISTS." The performance is pairing the orchestra with modern pop artists and virtual idol Hatsune Miku is no exception. Miku will dance and sing in real time by following the orchestra's command thanks to Crypton Future Media's "Real Time 3DCG Control System." The technology will allow Miku to move and dance along with the conductor while matching the music's tempo.

The concert will be held on March 22 at NHK Hall in Shibuya. The broadcaster will also air the concert on television at a to-be-decided date. Kazumasa Watanabe is conducting the concert. Additional guests include Ringo Sheena (Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū theme song composition) and actress Tetsuko Kuroyanagi.

Admission is free but only premium members of the NHK Net Club can submit a ticket application. Applications are accepted until March 3 and winners will be chosen via lottery.

Hatsune Miku will perform in a series of live concerts in North America this year. She'll make a total of six stops starting in Seattle on April 23.
