American rock group KISS debuted its commemorative ukiyo-e art prints at the Morrison Hotel Gallery at the Sunset Marquis Hotel in West Hollywood over the weekend. The prints show the band members as samurai, oni, and with Momoiro Clover Z. The premiere also drew star-studded attendees, including X Japan leader YOSHIKI and Japanese rock star MIYAVI.

MIYAVI, although primarily a singer and guitarist, attained international fame playing brutal Sergeant Mutsuhiro Watanabe in the American film Unbroken. Promoting Unbroken let him meet celebrities like Hayao Miyazaki and Ellen DeGeneres. MIYAVI has also toured in North America, performing in Los Angeles in 2014 and in 12 different cities in 2011.
YOSHIKI held his first "Yoshikimono" kimono collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Tokyo in October. X Japan is on temporary hiatus after guitarist Pata was hospitalized in Japan for diverticulitis in his large intestine, as well as thrombosis in the portal vein.

KISS founders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley also welcomed Alice Cooper, members of Anthrax, Dj Ashba of SIXX:AM, and Brandon Boyd from Incubus.

The exhibit, which includes the ukiyo-e prints and photos of the band, will be open to the public until February 17.

A total of 200 first-edition prints signed by KISS will be available for purchase. Production on the artwork first started in 2014 and took a team of Japanese artisans nearly a year to complete.

The Japanese Kiss Army store lists the signed prints as 237,600 yen (US$2,085) and unsigned prints as 108,000 yen (US$948).

Pop culture ukiyo-e prints are currently on the rise. The traditional Japanese art form is finding new popularity with prints based on Lupin the Third, Ghost in the Shell, and Star Wars.
