Love Plus Artist Designs Gatebox's 1st Holographic Robot Character

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Robots and artificial intelligence tech have made continuous advancements to improve the lives of humans, whether it's through lightening the workload or providing companionship.

Vinchu is working on the development of its Gatebox "Holographic Communication Robot," which would complete voice-command tasks like a universal remote control and greet tired workers when they come home.

The robot character is Hikari Azuma, designed by Love Plus character designer Tarō Minoboshi (formerly Mino☆Tarō). While she's only made of light, Hikari can fulfill a variety of tasks from managing the user's calendar, waking them up in the morning, and reporting the weather to controlling other appliances, take digital pictures, and possibly acting on its own accord to get the user's attention.

The company is currently focusing on improving Gatebox's communication accuracy with a crowdfunding campaign to launch in this fall. The price is expected to be around 100,000 yen (US$852) but it could change. Vinchu has already raised about 90 million yen (US$766,868) in capital and is actively recruiting more engineers.

Mino☆Tarō left Konami last March and revealed that he would work as a freelancer under the new pen name Tarō Minoboshi. Konami announced in March that it would continue to make games in the LovePlus series despite his and producer Akari Uchida's departure from the company.

A Kobe University Nakamura Laboratory researcher developed a somewhat similar home operating system using Vocaloid Hatsune Miku to control his appliances.
