Mari Illustrious Makinami Gets Sword-Wielding Kimono Doll

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Anime News Network's merchandise coverage sponsored by Tokyo Otaku Mode.

Takara Tomy opened pre-orders on Thursday for an articulated Mari Illustrious Makinami doll. Wearing a pink kimono printed with lilies and wielding a short Japanese sword, Mari is the second in a series based on the Evangelion and Japanese Swords Exhibit that toured Japan and Europe. Takara Tomy will ship the Mari doll in March. Pre-orders will open for Rei Ayanami at a later date.

The doll measures 27cm (10.6in) high and comes with an undershirt, kimono, obi (designed like an AT-Field), socks, underwear, glasses, sandals, sword, sheath, a sword holder, stand, stand base, and pedestal for display.

She retails for 15,000 yen (US$126).

The exhibit opened in 2012 when swordsmiths forged a 3 meter long replica of the Spear of Longinus for the original "Evangelion and Japanese Swords Exhibit" at the Bizen Osafune Japanese Sword Museum. The exhibit has since traveled to several cities in Japan and Europe last year.
