Amazon Offers Prime Instant Video in Japan

posted on by Kevin Pennyfeather

Online retailer Amazon announced on August 27 that it is launching Prime Instant Video in Japan in September as part of its Amazon Prime subscription service. The video service will include U.S. and Japanese animation, TV programs, and movies in its streaming catalog as well as Amazon original programming like 2014's Transparent drama, or Amazon's Tumble Leaf children's show.

Prime Instant Video will be available on iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire devices, as well as on gaming consoles and Smart TVs. 4K Ultra HD will be available for some of the videos. Prime Instant Video will not increase the price of Amazon Prime subscriptions in Japan from its current annual cost of 3,900 yen (about US$32).

Netflix launched in Japan on September 2.
