6 Deadly Maids

by Lynzee Loveridge,

Maids, like catgirls, are an anime staple. Heck, some characters are even both. There's something alluring about the frilly dresses and sworn dedication to their "Master," even if that dedication involves killing a tavern full of grown men with an umbrella gun and a Mary Poppin's style suitcase full of ammunition. It saves the extra cost of hiring a bodyguard.

6. Misaki Ayuzawa (Maid Sama!) Misaki is the unlikely protagonist that has the tough-as-nails, cool beauty demeanor usually assigned to a supporting role or even the villain in shōjo comedies. She demands competency from the rest of the student council and the predominately male student body. Much to her embarrassment, she also has to maintain her part-time job at a maid cafe. So what does she do when she's cornered by a group of creepy customers? Misaki well trained in Aikido, busts out of her handcuffs, and gives them their share of a beating.

5. Mahoro Andō (Mahoromatic) Mahoro is both a maid and an android characterized by her dedication to her master Misato Suguru and her very cute appearance. She wasn't built to serve humans, though. Mahoro's original purpose was to fight alien invaders, a fact that had her make a few tough, life-and-death decisions. She has immediate access to built in firearms and a support mech that looks like a panther.

4. Ryū Lyon (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) Ryū is first introduced as a stoic, elf maid-waitress at Bell's local tavern. Bell gets entangled with Liliruca Arde, and it becomes apparent that Ryū isn't all she appears to be when she confronts Lili for theft. More of her past is revealed when she is called upon when Bell and his party become trapped in the dungeon. Ryū actually has plenty of experience, not only as an adventurer but as the sole surviving member of her familia. Let's just say those who attacked her clan aren't around anymore, either.

3. Wilhelmina Carmel (Shakugan no Shana) Wilhelmina is a very polite, formal being with supernatural powers and a general disdain for the series' protagonist, Yūji. Like Shana, Wilhelmina is a flame haze and draws power from a Crimson Lord. Her abilities allow her to control ribbons, a skill she used and gained a reputation for during the Great War. The ribbons' go beyond slicing or capturing foes and are seen in the series causing explosions and shooting fireballs.

2. Airi (Queen's Blade 2: The Evil Eye) Airi and Sebastian reinforce that the very best servants are ones you summon from the depths of Hell. Airi's status as a "maid" is both literal and a pun. She devotes herself to The Swamp Witch, but the word maid and meido (underworld) are homonyms. As a combatant in the Queen's Blade Tournament, Airi fends off opponents with a scythe, summoning her own minions, and stealing their energy via touch.

1. Rosarita "Roberta" Cisneros (Black Lagoon) Deadly enough to get her own OVA titled Roberta's Blood Trail, the Bloodhound of Florencia once imagined breaking from her guerrilla roots and serving only as maid to the young Garcia Lovelace. The murder of his father stops that dream in its tracks and brings out the vicious Roberta that everyone fears, including the Triad and Hotel Moscow. The maid is seen utilizing an umbrella gun, honed hand-to-hand combat skills, and a sniper rifle to leave a trail of bodies in her wake.
