Udon Entertainment Adds Steins;Gate Manga

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
1st volume slated for August

North American publisher Udon Entertainment announced at its panel at San Diego Comic Con on Saturday that it has licensed Yomi Sarachi's Steins;Gate manga. The first volume is slated for August 2015, along with the first volume of the Kill la Kill manga.

Sarachi (original character designer for La storia della Arcana Famiglia) serialized the Steins;Gate manga in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Alive magazine from 2010-2013. Media Factory released the third and final compiled volume in Japan in September 2013.

5pb. and Nitroplus' Steins;Gate game is the second "scientific adventure game" from the two companies, who also created Chaos;HEAd, Robotics;Notes, and Chaos;Child. The artist huke (Black Rock Shooter) designed the characters. The story of the original game revolves around the eccentric college student Rintarō "Okarin" Okabe and his "Mirai Gadget Kenkyūsho" ("Future Gadget Laboratory") circle of friends in a realistic version of Tokyo's Akihabara district. The friends turn a microwave oven into a machine that sends email messages to the past, and that attracts the attention of a mysterious organization called SERN.

The game originally shipped for the Xbox 360 console in October 2009, and a Windows port shipped in August 2010. The game has also been ported to the PSP, PS3, PS Vita, and iOS.

JAST USA released the original PC game in English last year, and PQube Games released the PS3 and PS Vita version in English in Europe on June 5, with plans to release the versions in North America on August 25.

The game inspired a 24-episode television anime series in 2011, a one-episode special that was included with the home video release, and the Steins;Gate Fuka Ryōiki no Déjà vu film, which opened in Japan in April 2013. Funimation released the television anime series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in 2012, and it has also licensed the film.
