Kodocha Manga Gets New One-Shot 17 Years After Ending

Tokimeki Tonight also gets new one-shot

Shueisha's Ribon magazine announced on Wednesday that Miho Obana's Kodocha - Sana's Stage (Kodomo no Omocha ) and Koi Ikeno's Tokimeki Tonight manga will both get new one-shots in the September issue on August 3.

Obana began Kodocha - Sana's Stage in 1994 and ended the series 17 years ago in 1998. The manga won the shōjo category of the 22nd Kodansha Manga Awards. Obana also published "Deep Clear," a two-part crossover between Kodocha and her other series Honey Bitter, in 2010.

The story revolves around the popular child actress Sana Kurata and the problem child in her sixth-grade class, Akito Hayama.

Tokyopop published the manga in North America, and Funimation released the first half of the television anime.

Tokimeki Tonight ran from 1982-94 and 1998-99. Ikeno has since launched two alternate retellings, Tokimeki Midnight in 2002 and Tokimeki Tonight - Makabe Shun no Jijō in 2013. Most recently, Ikeno drew a one-volume prequel, Tokimeki Tonight: Etō Mōri no Kakeochi, which Shueisha published as a graphic novel in April.

The anime adaptation ran from 1982-83.

The manga spans three generations of the Etou family. The first part is about Ranze, a relatively normal high school girl, except for the fact that her father is a vampire, her mother is a werewolf, and that she has magical powers of her own. Her family was banished from the Magic World to live among the humans, and they now guard the gate between the two realms. The story really begin when Ranze falls for a human boy, which her parents strictly forbid. Later story arcs focus on Ranze's brother and on Ranze's daughter.

The one-shots part of Ribon magazine's 60th anniversary celebration. Megumi Mizusawa's 1990-1994 manga Hime-chan no Ribon will also get a new one-shot in the August issue on July 3. Nelke Planning is producing a Kodocha stage play, also to celebrate the anniversary. The play will open in August.
