Rena Matsui debuts as voice actress for heroine of April anime

This year's 14th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine is announcing on Wednesday that SKE48 idol group member Rena Matsui has been cast in the role of Suzune Kagami in the television anime of Takeshi Azuma's Denpa Kyōshi - He Is an Ultimate Teacher manga. This is her first voice-acting role.

Matsui commented on the role, "I'm excited to be offered the role. It'll be my debut as a voice actress, but I'll give it my all."

In the earlier anime television commercials for the manga, Suzune was played by Kana Asumi.

The 12th issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday announced that Hiroshi Kamiya would be playing the lead role of Jun'ichirō Kagami. The official website announced more cast members last month:

  • Aki Toyosaki as Kōtarō Araki
  • Ayane Sakura as Kisaki Tenjōin/Sachiko Tanaka
  • Azusa Tadokoro as Kiriko Shikishima
  • Rina Hidaka as Kanon Chinami
  • Saori Ōnishi as Makina Momozono
  • Sora Amamiya as Minako Kano
  • Suzuko Mimori as Koyomi Hiiragi

The story centers around Junichirō, a young man obsessed with manga, anime, and games. He was a young genius who published papers in the journals Nature and Science when he was only 17. However, after graduating college, he became a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) absorbed in his anime blog. Unable to watch Kagami throw away his life, his sister Suzune gets him to work at the Ichō Academy she attends. The head of the school's board, Koyomi Hiiragi, assigns Kagami to his new life as a teacher.

Masato Sato (Case Closed episodes eps 333-504) is directing the series with series scripts by Atsushi Maekawa (Hunter × Hunter, Lupin III vs. Detective Conan The Movie) at A-1 Pictures. Isao Sugimoto (Girls und Panzer, The Qwaser of Stigmata II) is designing the characters and Ryuuichi Takada (Dusk maiden of Amnesia, The IDOLM@STER) is composing the music.

Asakura, Natsukawa, and Amamiya is performing the opening theme "Youthful Dreamer" as the unit "TrySail" and idol group Tokyo Performance Doll (The File of Young Kindaichi Returns) is performing the ending theme.

Azuma has been drawing the manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine since late 2011. The Japanese title of the manga literally means "Electromagnetic-Wave Teacher," a reference to the term denpa-kei for people who act bizarrely, such as extreme otaku. The slang was coined from people who claimed their actions were caused by electromagnetic waves (denpa) they received.

Hirofumi Ogura (Black Butler II, The Knight in the Area) already directed two anime commercials for the manga at A-1 Pictures with character designer Tadashi Sakazaki (Zoids/ZERO designer, Black Butler II animation director). Daisuke Ono played Jun'ichirō in the anime TV ads for the manga, and Kana Asumi played the character's sister Suzune:

The television anime will premiere on April 4.
