Bandai Namco Pictures to launch in April; rest of Sunrise to expand business aimed at anime fans

Bandai Namco Holdings announced on Thursday its medium-term management plan for its three-year strategy from April 2015 onward. To focus on character business and other intellectual property, it will change the structure of the Bandai Namco Group. To that end, it will form a new production company called Bandai Namco Pictures in April. Bandai Namco Pictures will be a spinoff of part of the production divisions of Sunrise, an anime production company in the Bandai Namco Group known for Gundam.

The spun-off portion will handle the intellectual property aimed at children and family, such as the Aikatsu! anime. It will plan and produce original IP.

On the other hand, Sunrise will continue to cooperate with the anime planning and entertainment business company Bandai Visual. It will aim to expand its business targeting anime fans.

Bandai Namco Pictures will have 10 million yen (about US$80,000) in capital and will be based in Tokyo's Nerima Ward. Sunrise Representative Director and President Yasuo Miyakawa will also serve as representative director and president of the new company.

Sunrise registered the domain name BN-pictures.jp on January 30.
