The series is debuting the same day in Japan on Shueisha's digital Shonen Jump+ magazine under the title Hana Nochi Hare ~HanaDan~ Next Season (Flowers, Then Sunny Skies ~Boys Over Flowers~ Next Season). The story is set at Eitoku Academy two years after the legendary F4 group graduated and follows the next generation of characters.
Viz also announced it will make "special announcement" regarding Boys Over Flowers when the official postings on Facebook and Twitter are shared 200 times.
The original Boys Over Flowers manga followed 16-year old Makino Tsukushi, a bright girl from a middle-class family who gets accepted into the ultra elite Eitoku Academy. She finds herself on the bad side of the school's F4, the four most elite male members at the school.
Since Boys Over Flowers ended in 2004, Kamio drew two Boys Over Flowers side stories in 2006 and 2007. She also drew her Cat Street manga in Bessatsu Margaret from 2004 to 2007, her Matsuri Special manga in Jump Square magazine from 2007 until 2010, the Tora to Ōkami series in Bessatsu Margaret from 2010 to 2011, and the Ibara no Kanmuri (Crown of Thorns) manga from 2013 to 2014.
Viz Media launched a "Jump Start" initiative in North America last September. Under this initiative, Viz's digital English version of Weekly Shonen Jump will run the first three chapters of "almost every single" new series that debuts in Shueisha's original Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in Japan.
