New Wave of Digimon Figures Heading Towards Nostalgic Fans' Pocketbooks

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

If 2014 was the year of Sailor Moon, 2015 could easily become the year of Digimon. Fans of the original Digimon Adventure are getting their "all growed up" sequel this year as part of the franchise's 15th anniversary. But what's a proper anniversary without tie-in merchandise? Sailor Moon got its expensive Proplica accessories and Figurarts action figures. So it only makes sense that Digimon gets its own reissued Digivices and "GEM" series of high-quality figures courtesy of Premium Bandai.

The figure series so far includes Mimi Tachikawa with Palmon and Kōshirō "Izzy" Izumi with Tentomon.

The Mimi figure comes with replacement parts so buyers can change her facial expression and substitute her hat for a ponytail. Izzy also comes with an alternate facial expression. They're both made mostly of PVC and measure 75mm (about 3in) high.

Each figure costs 5,832 yen (about US$49) or they can be bought together for 11,016 yen (US$93). Preorders opened on Tuesday and the figures are expected to ship in June.
