Oricon announced that the Yo-kai Watch 2 Ganso/Honke Official Kōryaku Guide (Yo-kai Watch 2 Founder/Head Official Strategy Guide) sold an estimated 941,412 copies to be the top-selling book overall in Japan in 2014. (The statistics cover sales in bookstores, including online orders, surveyed from November 18, 2013 to November 16, 2014.) This is the first time that a game strategy book has topped the overall book chart since Oricon began reporting these annual rankings in 2008.

Until now, Oricon's highest ranking and top-selling game strategy book was the Animal Crossing: New Leaf Perfect Guidebook, which debuted in December 2012 and ranked #6 on the 2013 list with 695,000 copies. The Yo-kai Watch Official Kōryaku Guide (Yo-kai Watch Official Strategy Guide) ranked #231 last year, but sold 548,963 copies this year to rank #4. All together, the 13 various Yo-kai Watch tie-in books sold 2.303 million copies in 2014.

Not far behind is Disney's Frozen movie, whose 43 tie-in books moved a total of 2.131 million copies in 2014. That includes 398,473 copies of the novelization (pictured left) at #10, 294,476 copies of Nagaoka Shoten's picture book at #20, 269,238 copies of Kadokawa's animation picture book at #24, and 244,230 copies of Kodansha's picture book at #25. Kodansha's second picture book was #43 with 189,520 copies, and Kodansha's Disney Movie Book: Frozen (#65 with 155,467 copies) rounded out the six Frozen book in Oricon's top 100.
