X Japan Gets U.S.-Produced Documentary Film

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Documentary will film band's Madison Square Garden concert on October 11

Japanese glam-rock band X Japan are getting a documentary by director Stephen Kijak (Scott Walker: 30 Century Man, Stones In Exile) and producer John Battsek (Searching For Sugarman, The Imposter). Shooting is scheduled to start at the band's Madison Square Garden concert in New York City on October 11.

The band will perform fan favorites and previously unreleased tracks. The group will also appear at New York Comic Con, where YOSHIKI will attend a panel with Marvel's Stan Lee to discuss their collaborations, including the comic series based on YOSHIKI, Blood Red Dragon. New York Comic Con will run from October 9-10.

X Japan toured North America in 2010. They signed a three-year contract with EMI Music North America in 2011, and released their first North American single, "Jade" that same year. Their single "Scarlet Love Song" was used as the theme song for the anime film Buddha: The Great Departure. The band's music was also used as the ending theme for the X anime film and X - X2 double X original video anime.

The band originally disbanded in 1997 but reunited in 2007. Original lead guitarist hide and bassist Taiji Sawada passed away in 1998 and 2011, respectively.
