Japanese Fans Weigh In On the Trickiest "Golden Age Shonen Jump" Manga to Adapt to Live-Action

With the live-action adaptation of Takeshi Okano and Sho Makura's Jigoku Sensei Nube manga slated to start in October, fans are once again fretting about whether or not it will be any good. After all, while there are a number of good manga and anime live-action adaptations (the Kenshin movies have been raking it in this year in Japan), there are also plenty of bad ones.
Although some polls have asked fans to chime in on their most coveted live-action adaptations, and their biggest adaptation misgivings, Japanese social networking website Ameba recently asked 200 men in their 20s which "Golden Age of Shonen Jump" manga properties they thought were the most difficult to adapt into live-action.
Here are the results:
- Dragon Ball (19.5%)
- Kinnikuman (19.0%)
- Fist of the North Star (9.0%)
- Captain Tsubasa (8.5%)
- JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (7.0%)
- Yū Yū Hakusho (7.0%)
- Slam Dunk (5.0%)
- Saint Seiya (2.5%)
- Jungle no Ouja Tāchan (Jungle King Taa-chan) (2.0%)
- Magical Taruruuto-kun (2.0%)
- Highschool! Kimengumi (2.0%)
The "Golden Age of Shonen Jump" refers to a period of time from the mid-80s to the mid-90s, around the time when Jigoku Sensei Nube was published. Other series from that time include City Hunter, Bastard!!, and Rurouni Kenshin.
