Giant Captain Tsubasa Statues Tower Over Downtown Hong Kong

posted on by Bamboo Dong

In preparation for the World Cup, which kicks off on June 12 in Brazil, 5-meter (~16.4 feet) statues depicting characters from the Captain Tsubasa manga were erected in downtown Hong Kong. Those honored include Tsubasa Ozora, Taro Misaki, Genzo Wakabayashi, and Kojiro Hyuga, each wearing the latest kits and shoes from exhibit sponsor adidas.

The exhibit is located at Hyasan Place and the Lee Theatre and also includes artwork from the series, as well as a giant replica of the official match ball being used for this year's World Cup.

The Captain Tsubasa anime was first broadcast in Hong Kong almost 30 years ago, and the exhibit has since attracted many visitors.
