MPD-Psycho Manga to Set Up Climax in Volume 20

Series writer Eiji Ohtsuka will launch essay manga next month

The July issue of Kadokawa's Young Ace magazine is announcing on Wednesday that the 20th volume of manga writer Eiji Ohtsuka's MPD-Psycho manga will set up the series' climax. The volume will ship in Japan on July 4.

Ohtsuka and Shōu Tajima's manga about a detective with multiple personalities launched in 1997. Dark Horse Comics licensed the series in 2006 and have thus far released 10 compiled volumes. The manga inspired a live-action television series by Takashi Miike which BCI/Eclipse released on DVD in North America and Crunchyroll streamed on its website.

Ohtsuka will begin an essay manga on publisher Seikaisha's "Saizensen" website in mid-June. The manga, titled Kadokawa Tsuguhiko to Media Mix no Jidai (Tsuguhiko Kadokawa and the Era of Media Mix), will serve as a biography of three generations of Kadokawa Group leaders: Gen'yoshi Kadokawa, Haruki Kadokawa, and Tsuguhiko Kadokawa. The series will discuss the company's 80-year history, and how the three men introduced the era of "media mixing," when companies began crossing over into multiple genres of entertainment.

The announcement cites the recent mutual investments of Kadokawa Group Holdings and the online services company Dwango as an example.

Ohtsuka previously gave the keynote speech at the 2012's President's Conference Series event titled "Experiencing the Media Mix: Anime, Manga, Video Games" in Montreal, Quebec.

Ohtsuka is currently working on The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service manga and its spinoff Matsuoka Kunio Youkai Taiji with artist Hosui Yamazaki and Ashiya Yonshimai Monogatari with Naomi Akamoto.

North America's Dark Horse Comics published the 13th volume of The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service in 2012.
