Hamatora Gets Stage Play in Tokyo in August

posted on by Egan Loo
Open auditions for play of project that already has manga, 2 TV anime, game

The Hamatora project, which already has an ongoing manga series, a second television anime series in the works, and an upcoming game, is inspiring a stage play adapation this August. The play will run for 12 performances from August 16 to August 24 at the Haiyūza Theater Roppongi in Tokyo. The production will hold open auditions for roles.

The production company Eigeki is putting together the Hamatora play after working on Super Musical Saint Seiya, the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion stage play, and Lucky Star ≒ On Stage. The story of the Hamatora play has not been announced.

The play's open auditions are accepting male applicants between the ages of 18 and 30, and female applicants between the ages of 15 and 19. Applicants are not required to be affiliated with a particular production group or agency, and all applicants will be considered within those age ranges. Applicants must submit their entries by May 24, and they will be notified of more details by the end of May.

In the story of the anime, partners Nice and Murasaki form a detective agency called "Hamatora" in Yokohama in 2014 — but their "office" is a table at Cafe Nowhere where they and their friends wait for clients. An old acquaintance of theirs, a cop named Art, hires them for a serial murder case he is investigating, and they discover that the murder victims are all "Minimum Holders" — those who possess special hereditary powers discovered only in an extremely limited number of humans. As Minimum Holders themselves, Nice and Murasaki are drawn into this case, whether they like it or not.

The new anime series, Re:␣Hamatora (Reply Hamatora), will premiere this July. The first anime's chief director Seiji Kishi is formally listed as the director for the new anime, but at the studio Lerche this time. (NAZ will be collaborating with Lerche.) The cast is returning and several other staff members are returning.

The Hamatora Fes 2014.summer event will screen exclusive special footage of Re:␣Hamatora at the Pacifico Yokohama on July 13. FuRyu will ship its Hamatora: Look at Smoking World game for Nintendo 3DS on July 17.
