The List
7 Most Dangerous Alien Planets

by Lynzee Loveridge,

With the holiday season out of the way, it's back to your regularly-scheduled lists of all things anime and manga. We'll kick off this year with some of the most dangerous locales found out in intergalactic anime space. These places are home to killer plants, fugitives, disease, the human slave-trade, and all manner of things that could kill you. Enjoy!

7. Gunsmoke (Trigun) The planet Gunsmoke was never meant to be inhabited. The planet is a desert wasteland devoid of water thanks to its dual-sun solar system. The only natural lifeforms on Gunsmoke are sand-worms and parasitic insects that can take human hosts. If the heat doesn't kill you, than the bandits and superhuman vagabonds will.

6. Venus (Cowboy Bebop) In the future, Venus has more or less been successfully terraformed after mankind flees Earth. Due to the high temperature and sulfuric acid atmosphere, humans created floating plant islands to create breathable air. An unfortunate side effect is the spores cause some of Venus' citizens to go blind. It's curable but the antidote is rare and controlled by vicious black-market.

5. Gamilon (Space Battleship Yamato/Star Blazers) The planet of Gamilon is long past its prime. The surface is covered in active volcanoes creating a dual crust and polluting the atmosphere with sulfuric acid and polluting its water supply. The planet's militaristic inhabitants also have the unique feature of breathing radiation instead of oxygen. The Gamilon race decide to find a new home on Earth and attack with radiation bombs.

4. Lux (Texhnolyze) The city of Lux exists underground where citizens try to eke out a life in paid brawls and avoid being killed by one of the three factions vying for the city's control. One of these factions is tied to the criminal underworld that funds technologically advanced prosthetic limbs fueled by dead bodies (kinda). The advancement has led to an ever-growing army of cyborgs that quickly gaining control of the city itself.

3. Chimaera (Jyu-Oh-Sei) Chimaera is a secret space penal colony with its own rules and dangerous wildlife. Outside the colonies are giant man-eating plants ready to attack a stray wandering prisoner. Inside the colonies, prisoners fight to death for the title of Beast King and the opportunity to leave the planet behind. The planet has since divided itself into a race-based class system with a kill-or-be-killed mentality adopted throughout the society.

2. Amoï (Ai no Kusabi) The genetically engineered blondes of Tanagura city have free reign over the perceived lesser, dark-haired inhabitants. The society's rules are in place thanks to its governing supercomputer, Jupiter. Being born with the "wrong" hair color could mean being sold into the "pet" trade and serving the whims of a creepy master until he gets bored or living in the slums.

1. Hellywood (Now and Then, Here and There) Another planet devoid of water, Hellywood is run by Mad King Hamdo who will use any means necessary to acquire the scarce resource. Children are enlisted, humans traded, and communities destroyed in search of water. Hellywood is a cruel place devoid of childhood and security and by no means a place to take a vacation.
