New Eva Films' Khara Animates Virtual Duo Meaw's Video

Speed Grapher/No More Heroes' Yuusuke Kozaki designed twin virtual idols

The digital department of Khara, the studio that director Hideaki Anno founded to produce the four-film remake of his Evangelion anime, is animating the "pair*" music video for the virtual idol duo Meaw. The duo's official website is streaming a short version of the song's Factory Mix, as well as an audio sample of the songs on the "pair*" maxi-single.

Meaw debuted last November under King Record's Starchild Records label. Yuusuke Kozaki (Speed Grapher, Grasshopper Manufacture's No More Heroes game) designed the twin girls in Meaw, and Momoiro Clover Z choreographer Yumi Ishikawa contributed to their dance moves.

In the back story created for the duo, the pink-haired Me (pronounced "mei") and the light blue-haired Aw (pronounced "ū") came from Thailand to Tokyo at the age of 14 to become idols. For two years, they have been training on their dancing and singing. (Not conicdentally, Starchild also hosts Neko Jump, two real-life twin sisters from Thailand who formed an idol unit and came to Japan as teenagers.)

Ohta Publishing's web magazine PocoPoco posted a roundtable discussion between Kozaki and members of Khara on the making of the music video. The magazine also posted the video's storyboards. The magazine CG World posted another behind-the-scenes article about the video.

The "pair*" single, the second maxi-single from Meaw, will go on sale on Wednesday (after a two-week production delay).
