Vinland Saga Creator: Episode 11's TV Version is Cut, Full Version is on Amazon Prime

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Vinland Saga manga creator Makoto Yukimura made sure viewers knew that the series' 11th episode had some changes when it aired on NHK on Saturday night. Yukimura wrote on Twitter on Sunday that the NHK version was "smaller in scale" and due to "various circumstance" the episode had numerous cuts "everywhere." Yukimura apologized to viewers and stated that the full version of the episode is available on the Amazon Prime streaming service.

Yukimura elaborated that the issues were no one's fault and related to NHK's status as a terrestrial television station.

"Regardless, it's unfortunate that that the cut scenes won't be seen by everyone!" the manga artist wrote. "It's a shame when even a bit of the hard work put into an anime production is lost. In short, I'm advertising why you should by the Blu-ray. And watch on Amazon Prime!"

Kodansha Comics began publishing the manga series in North America in 2013, and it describes the story:

Thorfinn is son to one of the Vikings' greatest warriors, but when his father is killed in battle by the mercenary leader Askeladd, he swears to have his revenge. Thorfinn joins Askeladd's band in order to challenge him to a duel, and ends up caught in the middle of a war for the crown of England. From the creator of the classic Planetes manga comes this epic, highly-anticipated tale.

The anime premiered with the first three episodes on July 7 at 24:10 (effectively, July 8 at 12:10 a.m.) on the NHK General channel. The anime also streams exclusively on Amazon Prime Video both in Japan and overseas.

Yukimura launched the manga series in Japan in 2005.
