Nintendo Will Replace Byleth Voice Actor Chris Niosi in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Fire Emblem Heroes

Niosi confirmed he "horribly mistreated and abused" friends, colleagues, significant others in blog post

Nintendo confirmed with Game Informer on Friday that it will replace voice actor Chris Niosi as Byleth in an upcoming patch for Fire Emblem Three Houses following Niosi's own admission of abusive behavior towards others, including past romantic partners. Nintendo told Game Informer:

After assessing the situation, we decided to re-record the character's voiceovers in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Fire Emblem Heroes with another actor. The new voiceovers will be included in a future patch.

Niosi's blog post discusses how he was initially accused of misconduct five years ago but did not address the accusations at that time. This month he wrote apologies to former girlfriends and friends to address his behavior. The allegations ranged from sexual harassment, abuse, and assault. Former partners stated that Niosi had said he had "implied permission" to do what he wanted to them.

Nintendo had previously announced that the character Byleth would appear in its widely successful Fire Emblem Heroes mobile game. Nintendo released a trailer with Byleth for the game with Niosi credited. Not long after the trailer release, Niosi's name was removed from the character page on the game's official website and a new trailer was released with Byleth voiced by Zach Aguilar (One-Punch Man).

Niosi (30) has starred in Mob Psycho 100 as Reigen, Tales of Zestiria the X as Dezel, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- as Julius Euclius, and the Godzilla anime trilogy as Haruo Sakaki. He has also appeared in various roles of Cartoon Network's OK K.O.!.

Intelligent Systems and Koei Tecmo Games' Fire Emblem: Three Houses Nintendo Switch game launched on Friday.

Update: Niosi is scheduled to attend the Anime California convention as a featured guest from August 23-25 at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Convention Center.
