Sword Art Online 10th Anniversary Exhibit Previews Interactive 'Sword Skill Challenge'

posted on by Kim Morrissy

Sword Art Online's 10th anniversary exhibit "Sword Art Online: Ex-Chronicle" released a video previewing its interactive "Sword Skill Challenge" feature on Tuesday. The exhibit uses motion capture technology to allow visitors to play as Kirito and Eugeo and use sword skills to defeat hordes of goblins in real time.

The interactive feature will only be available between August 12 to 18, one week during the exhibit's run. In order to participate, you must enter a draw by entering your details in the online form between July 24 to 28. The winning names will be announced from July 30.

The exhibit will take place from August 4 to 18 in the Akiba Square, which is located on the second floor of the UDX building in Akihabara. Regular tickets cost 1,500 yen (US$13), while a premium ticket which comes with a special booklet will cost 3,000 yen (US$27).

The first volume of the Sword Art Online light novel series debuted in Japan on April 10, 2009. Besides the anime series, Kawahara's novels have inspired a manga adaptation, the Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online spin-off light novel series, anime, and manga, and multiple video games. Publisher Dengeki Bunko opened a special site in April with art by illustrator abec to commemorate the anniversary.
