Sadako Becomes YouTube Celebrity in Sadako-san to Sadako-chan Manga

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The Ring's Sadako is not quite so scary in Aya Tsutsumi's comedy manga spin-off Sadako-san to Sadako-chan (Ms. Sadako and Little Sadako). The ComicWalker web series was collected into a single manga volume and released on May 23 by Kadokawa.

The story follows a young girl named Sadako who spends every day in a narrow closet until one day the ghostly Sadako comes to curse and kill her. The ghost is surprised that the young girl doesn't fear her, but instead looks forward to visiting with the apparition. Instead of cursing her, Sadako and little Sadako decide to debut as content creators and make videos together. Readers can catch a glimpse of Sadako's true face when the young girl fixes up the ghost's hair.

Sadako might bring death and frights in her live-action films, but she's been known to appear at promotional events as less hostile. She recently pitched the opening ball for the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters vs Saitama Seibu Lions game on May 12. She's also raced horses, run a popularity campaign, and starred in a vacation photo shoot.

The live-action horror film Sadako will open in Japan on May 24. The film is based on Koji Suzuki's novel Tide, the sixth and latest installment in the Ring novel series that has inspired the film franchise.

The latest film in the Japanese franchise was a crossover film with the Ju-on horror franchise titled Sadako vs. Kayako. The film debuted in January 2017.
