Maquia DVDs Incorrectly List Japanese Language Track

Shout! Factory confirmed with ANN that its first run of DVDs for the Maquia - When the Promised Flower Blooms anime film incorrectly listed a Japanese track with English subtitles, but this has been corrected for subsequent runs.

Shout! Factory told ANN that the non-inclusion of the Japanese language track was due to a requirement from the licensors. The licensor required English subtitles to be hard-coded (unremovable) on the Japanese track, so any release would require two video tracks: one clean for the English dub and one with subtitles for the Japanese dub. Shout! Factory said the DVD does not support the inclusion of both versions, so it is English dub-only

Shout! Factory also released a Blu-ray Disc and DVD combo pack on the same day, February 5. The Blu-ray Disc offers both English and Japanese audio, with the subtitles hard-coded on the Japanese language track.

Shout! Factory's initial press release for the home video release says, "This release is presented in Japanese with subtitles, and with an English dub," but does not clarify that this line only refers to the Blu-ray Disc, not the DVD.

Right Stuf will also release the film on a deluxe edition Blu-ray Disc in March. Eleven Arts Anime Studio holds the license for the film.
